All right! We are
talking about feelings today. We are talking about feelings,
emotions, ambiance, and passion in interior design. You wanna take
your passion and make it happen. But I'll tell you something. You
need more than passion. You need skill and knowledge to make it
happen. Do you remember a song from the movie, Flashdance,
sung by Irene Cara? The song was called “What A Feeling.” It was
all about feeling, passion, and emotion. “Take your passion and
make it happen. You can have it all! You can really have it all.”
Now, go ahead and get on YouTube and listen to the soundtrack. I’ll
wait, OK. You have it now? The feeling. Make sure you do. Like I
said ... What a Feeling! Take Your Passion and Make It
Happen! In interior design, it is very
important to have it all. Not just a look, but a look … and a
feeling. Your environment needs to take ahold of your heart, and
also take your breath away. Ambiance has been a core component with
me from the very inception of my business ... Spectrum Interiors,
established in 1982. Because in my book … a look without a Ambiance
… is nothing. Ladies, it's like getting all dressed up and you
forgetting to put on your favorite perfume. Now do you really feel
put altogether? I doubt it. OK, so like I said before, this feeling
in interior design has a name. It’s called Ambiance. And Ambiance
is that intangible aspect of an interior design that captures the
mind, the heart, and the intellect of both the occupants and their
guests. But you may ask, “How do I move from just a look … to a
look with Ambiance? How do you start when you don't even
know where to begin … or where you'll end up? Well without this
major component and aspect, you will NOT have 'What a Feeling! Take
Your Passion and Make It Happen!' ... happening at all. Interior
design has a number of inter-related aspects … just as complicated
as a symphony presentation … a wonderful song. Just as intricate as
the golf swing of a professional golfer. Just as intricate and
skillful as the moves of a fantastic gold medal ice skating star.
This creative field of interior design and decoration, like every
other creative work, must work in harmony with a body of definable
principles. And it can only excel in the degree that it conforms to
these principles. Think of great music. There are principles to
follow, theory of music to understand … if you want to attain to
the highest levels. To deny that interior design and decoration has
a basis in organized knowledge is to deny the possibility of any
intelligent progress in the art. It's all about What a Feeling!
Take Your Passion and Make It Happen! It
takes more than passion to do a good job for people. Especially
when they are spending a lot of their hard earned money. They
deserve to have it done right, once, the first time! That,
I am very passionate about. Not only am I passionate, but
I'm passionate about investing people's money in a way that they
get a definitive return on their investment … in bigger
ways than they imagine, and in more ways than they
imagined. It’s part of my obligation to them. So
interior design is nothing to play around with. We're talking about
doing things right, once, the first time. And then enjoying it from
day one to day end. It's not a place where you can play, unless you
have deep pockets. And since this interior design and decoration
arena is so easily infiltrated by people who have a passion, but
not necessarily all the requisite knowledge, it's even more
important than ever that you get not only someone who is
passionate, but knowledgeable, and skillful. So make sure you do
your due diligence. Make sure you ask the right questions to get
the right answers, so you can get the right results. Because that's
what I do with every interior design job and every
client. I ask the right questions, to get the right answers,
so that I can deliver the right result for them. So that they can
be totally enamored, thrilled, charmed, captivated, enriched, and
totally delighted! Then you can shout ... What a Feeling! Take Your
Passion and Make It Happen!
